Bullard of the Space Patrol By Malcom Jameson
1951 This book is a series of 7 stand alone short stories/novellas that look in on John Bullard at different stages of his career. So we get to see him earn the formidable reputation he has in the later stories of the book. The book describes 50's views of space travel, so it can be difficult to imagine at first, but the story The Orders is so hilarious, I still chuckle when I think about it. Note, you cant jump directly to that story, you have to see how he built his reputation first.
